Superb musicians, singers with fantastic personalities, wonderful songs: this is the recipe for Budapest Bár’s success. Since its formation, the group has become a favourite of several generations – dusting off innumerable old songs, bringing forgotten ones back to life, or dressing some very familiar numbers in new clothes. Their shows are a meeting of many ages, cultures and generations, which is perhaps why they are so loved by young and old alike. The group’s story begins in 2007 with the ...launch of the loose alliance of musicians and singers, that has since grown into a genuine ensemble in its own right. The Budapest Bár band was originally set up by Róbert Farkas with the intention of giving fresh impetus to the tradition of Gypsy café music. Robi met his fellow musicians at the Academy of Music, forming the core of the band with them; all that then remained to add was something special, a contemporary sound. Thus was born the idea of inviting a few outstanding singers from the Hungarian pop and rock scenes, including some of the most distinctive personalities in music today. On 30 December 2012, Budapest Bár celebrated five years together with a brace of sell-out birthday concerts at the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall in the Palace of Arts. Today, Budapest Bár has become one of Hungary’s best-known cultural brands and, having conquered the domestic scene, is now beginning to make its international breakthrough. In July 2012, the group performed in London’s Trafalgar Square at a major music festival timed to coincide with the Olympic Games, while in March and April 2013, the band toured Brazil and the United States. For this MR2 ACOUSTIC+ FROM THE PALACE OF ARTS concert, the band is preparing a special treat as the singers performing in the group each give a few hits from their own bands the “Budapest Bár treatment”.
