Besh o droM was formed in 1999 by Gergő Barcza (wind instruments) and Ádám Pettik (percussion). In the Lovari Romani language, the band's name translates to 'sit on the road', an idiom meaning 'don't be afraid to follow your path'. Fear was never an issue, as their first album, 2000's Macsó hímzés, brought them engagements all over Europe. It is not only their melding of Eastern European, Balkan and Middle Eastern folk music that they owe their unique sound to, as it also comes from the ferocious energy that would be a match for even the wildest Balkan brass bands. At the same time, thanks to their deliberate use of Hungarian folk music, they never blended into the fashionable Balkan Beat wave, but instead preserved their own flavour. The ensemble has so far performed more than one thousand concerts in Europe, North America, Australia and Asia, and can boast five platinum albums (Macsó hímzés, Gyí!, Nekemtenemmutogatol!, Ha megfogom az ördögöt and Kertünk alatt). Although two of their founding members have moved abroad in recent years, this has not got in the way of either their concert schedule or new recordings. Their most recent EP, entitled Gyüttmenti táncok, came out in 2016.
