Featuring: Rezső Kutik – guitar, vocal, as well as Ágota Siménfalvy, Anna Trokán, Nóra Trokán – vocal, Katalin Gémesi – guitar, vocal, Krisztina Végh and Csaba Solti – dance By publishing her new album this year, this authentic Hungarian actress of Greek origin entered a new phase of her artistic career. She performs fifteen Latin-American songs in a truly unique style: accompanied by a guitar. Heart-warming, sometimes heart-breaking ballads: a whirling confession of an experienced woman about ...love, disappointment, insanity, rebellion and seeking happiness. Some of the songs have also been hits in Hungarian, while they reflect the atmosphere of the original lyrics. “Latin music touches me no matter what mood I’m in; be it blue, hopeful or disheartened”, says Athina Papadimitriu. Although Rezső Kutik, the musician accompanying her, has arrived from the world of classical music, the end result is not a crossover style performance but – by going back to the roots of the songs –, the artists have created a unique, acoustic sounding album. Through a stage plot structured around her songs, Athina tells us how they came to be written and what they are about. A number of the songs had become popular from Academy Award winning films like Casablanca, Black Orpheus, The Scent of a Woman and Frida. The audience has a chance to see footages of these films during the performance. Some of the stories come to life through the language of dance, performed by the solo dancers of the Hungarian State Opera House, Krisztina Végh and Csaba Solti. As on the record, Athina’s guest at the concert is Ágota Siménfalvy, musical diva from the Budapest Operetta Theatre. Athina and Ágota sing a duet: the song Paloma Negra from Frida. It promises to be an especially touching moment of the event when Athina Papadimitriu and her two daughters Anna and Nóra Trokán perform a Greek ballad.
