Homage to the chorus master Gábor Ugrin.

"According to Hungarian folk tradition, the newborn Saviour was brought gifts not only by the Three Kings but by the shepherds as well. Waking each other up to an immense cry of ‘Gloria!', they jostled each other and stumbled about in their happy, clumsy way, filled with hope and strong expectation of a beautiful future. Whatever each had, they took with them: one a little lamb, another a chunk of cheese, a third a flute and a dance. This evening, we set off on our journey in the company of Zoltán Kodály's choral works and the music, tales and dances of shepherds to find the Baby Jesus in the wilderness of Bethlehem.” (András Berecz)
András Berecz, who was also honoured with the Kossuth Prize in 2011, believes that the vocation of storytelling is a calling to breathe new life into old tales. And not merely to add lustre to the old ones, but to seek out new ones as well. He learned his first songs from his mother, who had a large supply of them as the daughter of well-known Kunhegyes dancer Gábor Tanka, a man full of fun and songs. At the start of his career, András Berecz found himself among the Csángó people of Romania, and later went travelling in Transylvania and Slovakia, as well as in the regions of Somogy, the Nagykunság, and the Nyírség, to collect material. He attained popularity as the singer of Ökrös and András Egyszólam (Unison), but he is no less revered for his storytelling - for which he become uniquely legendary.
