The most charismatic Hungarian band of English guitar music was founded at the beginning of 2000 by singer–guitar player–songwriter Imre Poniklo. In its first years it was rather a workshop than a band; its members changing several times. Poniklo was surrounded by great musicians like Annabarbi, Óriás, The Trousers, who will earn the right to occupy a chapter of their own in the rock encyclopaedias of future decades. The present setup has been steady for five years: the main figure is accompanie...d by Oszkár Ács on bass guitar, Zoltán Kőváry on guitar and Bence Bátor on drums. Their first attempts were already successful: the Berlin-based Firestation Records took notice of their demo disc titled Above the Clouds and later four of their songs were published by Firestation Records under the title There Is No Way. Their albums have been managed by foreign labels and producers ever since: their LP titled rePRINT meant a real breakthrough in 2006, and the one-time Cocteau Twins leader Robin Guthrie can get a credit for that. This title was a great success, was received very well by critics everywhere and has made the band one of the most popular concert groups in the country. Their recent album Introspective was a hit in 2008: it was listed best Hungarian album by Pesti Est Budapest cultural programme magazine and also won the Fonogram Prize “The best Hungarian alternative album in 2008”. It was no pure coincidence: the creation of the record was helped by star producer Chris Brown who had earlier worked with Radiohead and Muse. The first Amber Smith performance at Palace of Arts is built around the material of Introspective, placing emphasis on the fine musical details in order to accommodate to the Palace of Arts concert hall’s characteristics. In addition they also perform several of the earlier instant classics.
