After 28 years, 11 albums and countless concert appearances both at home and abroad, After Crying has proven that it can create the kind of musical world where 'classical' and 'popular' not mutually exclusive. From the armouries of acoustic chamber music, modern rock and pop, symphonic orchestration and both classical and modern forms, it is possible to produce a diverse but unified whole and project a consistent artistic view of the world. From the very beginning, the band consciously developed its philosophy, in which it sees both the greats and little-known “minor masters” of Europe’s musical culture as its exemplars. The musicians of After Crying strive to create works that are accessible to many by using elements of today’s common musical vernacular, which convey deep meaning on important themes with a high standard of artistry. This is a kind of “modern classical music” which speaks at once to the audience of its own time and to the generations to come.
Back in 1997, After Crying already used a full classical orchestra on recordings of its members’ own compositions, while giving its first symphonic concert in Caracas in 2000. A series of highly successful orchestral concerts since then have fulfilled this creative group’s ambitions, while the eMeRTon Prize for popular music received in 2004 (as “Band of the Year”) proves that the group speaks the everyday language of modern music. After Crying will present a concert summarizing 28 years of work, containing both new pieces and unusual arrangements of older compositions not played in a long time.
