LITERARIUM EXTRA

Szűcsinger have been travelling all over Hungary for five years and are completely at home in club concert venues, schools, libraries, pubs and music festivals alike. The seed for all this was the performance of Rájátszás, a 90-minute production of indefineable genre from musician Krisztián Szűcs (HS7, Budapest Bár, NAZA) and the poet Balázs Szálinger. The show saw contemporary poets and pop musicians performing songs together, either adding new lyrics to existing hits or transforming poetry into songs.
Szűcsinger take a range of approaches to the world of sung poetry: concert as literary evening, literary evening as caberet, caberet as poetry and poetry as jam session. Who said that you can't tackle Hungarian poems and end up with pop music? What's to stop you turning a Petőfi poem into a radio hit? And whoever told you it's not possible to switch across from comedy to tragedy? The strength in this evening lies in its creators' humorous, playful demonstration of their shared obsessions (Sándor Petőfi, the Beatles, Hungarian cabaret). Joint songs, teenage poetry, hits in the pre-release testing phase, war and peace, sketches, Beatles songs with brand new lyrics and psychedelic Petőfi, before the evening culminates in Világslágerek magyarul (World Hits in Hungarian) , leaving not a dry eye in the house.
