This exhibition connected to Rameau's Les Indes galantes, which will be performed as part of the Early Music Festival, gives visitors an overview of how the average European of days long gone would have imagined distant cultures considered to be exotic and, on occasion, barbaric. What pictures and objects arrived from those far-off lands - even to Hungary. We know that our forebears had a certain amount of knowledge of the Ottoman Empire, but what impression did they have of the Persians, the Indians, the Incas, the Aztecs or even the North Americans?
