Platinum level members of the Müpa+ membership programme can buy tickets for the event on 29 September from 10 am, at the Gold level on 30 September from 10 am, and at the Silver level on 1 October from 10 am. Basic level members, as well as members of the general public will get the opportunity to purchase tickets from 10 am on 2 October.

György Schwajda’s book A rátóti legényanya was published in 1985, but it was only in 1989, at the dawning of the “regime change”, that Dezső Garas turned it into a film. The source material itself draws on the Hungarian store of anecdotes about the lads of Rátót, and the film gives them an extra twist. As a result, The Pregnant Papa accelerates into a madcap journey that exceeds every speed limit. An insane burlesque and pure satire that, according to the rules of the genre, also deploys the fantastic and the miraculous. And it is more than a little bit absurd. Contemporary critics disliked it – perhaps because it was too brash. Or because, in the year of its premiere, the Opposition Round Table was already meeting with the Hungarian Socialist Workers Party (MSZMP), and it seemed we were about to take permanent leave of our Rátót-style “Béla-dom”. The audience loved it nevertheless. And, as time passed, it came to love it even more. Why? Who knows? One possible answer is Judit Halász’s monologue in the 58th minute of the film. Until then, on no account leave the auditorium!
