MINI MATINÉE

One of our favourite family puppet theatres, the Majorka, is here to tell you the story of a truly special animal. András Tapolcsányi's one-person, interactive play follows in the footsteps of the pelican bird. This strange creature possesses an exceptional gift: if someone hears its song, their youth is immediately restored. The only problem is that the pelican lives not in Hungary, but beyond the Seven Seas. To find it, we need the help of brave spectators who are undaunted by any kind of obstacle. Guaranteed rejuvenation in 45 minutes or less.

The Majorka Theatre's mission is to revive Hungarian folk culture and present its contemporary descendents on the puppet stage. Anyone who has seen one of their shows before will happily recall an explosion of joy and natural kindness that not only arouses the curiosity of the children but keeps them interested to the very end of the performance. Both children and adults alike receive constant attention, while the performers know and feel what the audience for the day can offer and what they cannot. When it comes to the one-person play The Pelican Bird, the last of these abilities is particularly important, as András Tapolcsányi and his yellow-beaked, blue-bodied eponymous bird are not capable of completing their dangerous mission without some help. This fine creature may possess a magical quality - the ability to rejuvenate anyone who listens to his song - but first he must be found. And as so often happens in fairytales, the brave adventurers must pass a series of tests along their journey. After the smiley, wily witch, the mosquito, fish and mice kings stand in their way. But there is no need to worry: if your heart and your mind is in the right place, you will receive your just rewards. One side-effect of the performance: young people will age by three-quarters of an hour, adults emerge one year younger.
