What happens when two towels, an inflatable mattress and a little courage come together on a beach? Rita Góbi’s movement theatre production entitled Beach is inspired by the tiny adventures of a summer afternoon: the reluctance to step into cold water, the threat of stormclouds, the thrill of the deep, and the realisation that the beach is not only for splashing about, but also for play, and even dancing. This non-verbal performance, created for preschool children, uses humour, keen observation, and plenty of visual ideas to show how uncertainty turns into curiosity, fear into excitement, and time spent together into friendship. Instead of words, it is movement, gestures and musical moods that tell the story, allowing even the youngest audience members to easily connect with the action. A light-hearted, colourful and lovable performance in which summer is not merely the backdrop, but a state of mind.
