Wagner Die Walküre – Act 1

But why the three capital Ws? Because this concert focuses on the German operatic tradition of Weber, Wagner and Die Walküre. These names and terms serve as signposts of German musical culture in much the same way that a country code at the end of a website URL indicates its origin. There would be no German Romanticism without Weber. He was the first to incorporate leitmotifs into his music and to introduce romantically heroic figures deeply connected to nature. Wagner then built on this foundation, expanding the Germanic mythological world into an entire musical universe. One of whose most spellbinding examples of this is Die Walküre. Old-fashioned storytelling? The Ring cycle, which includes Die Walküre, can actually be seen as a musical precursor, by almost a hundred years, to the hugely successful The Lord of the Rings. Lovers of epic adventures and beautiful melodies will thoroughly enjoy this concert!
