Thanks to the King's Singers, vocal groups have been enjoying a revival of late. Representing their heritage, a variety of groups will bring us select samples of the genre in a concert where the emphasis will be on light, effervescent and even witty entertainment.
The repertoire of the Thios Omilos Quartet spans the choral genre from the Renaissance period right up to our own time in youthful, spirited performances peppered with musical jokes and humorous ideas, yet at the highest level of professionalism and lyrical accomplishment.
Three young ladies make up the Chilli da Mur choral group, which is equally at home in jazz, modern music, and folk standards. And if the mood peaks, they can get carried away even to the point of yodelling.
Singing without limits: this is what marks out the work of Rajaton. The significant word is "borderless”, in the sense that movement between styles characterises their relationship with the music. There are no taboos, no boundaries. Their works are typified by free movement between historical and modern forms. In today's concert, we will explore a place where pop mixes with classical music, and impressive expertise blends with entertainment.
The Cotton Club Singers, one of Hungary's most popular singing groups, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Although the group gave its farewell concert in 2009, its members have from time to time reappeared in front of audiences on informal occasions. Today's concert is one of these special events, and another chance to see the band briefly come out of its self-imposed retirement.
