According to critics, the Serbian cellist Petar Pejčić possesses a “captivating gift for storytelling” (Le Soir). His career has soared since he first attracted attention as the youngest finalist of the 2022 Queen Elisabeth Competition, which he followed up with victory at the 2025 YCAT competition in London. He is currently studying with Frans Helmerson at the renowned Kronberg Academy. Pejčić is a true explorer who, in addition to being a committed chamber musician, constantly pushes genre boundaries with his interdisciplinary projects. For his recital at Müpa Budapest, he will evoke the spiritual power of music by performing on a 1694 Guarneri cello. His programme, entitled Prayer to Ecstasy, spans from Bach through Bloch and Ligeti to contemporary works by Ana Sokolović and Giovanni Sollima as he seeks to build a bridge between the earthly and the metaphysical worlds. The soloist enjoys a close professional relationship with the composer Đuro Živković, who has also written the new work commissioned by ECHO for this occasion.

Nominated for the Rising Stars programme by: Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Konzerthaus Dortmund, Palau de la Música Catalana
