One of the longest-running Hungarian literary publications, Magyar Műhely (Hungarian Workshop) was founded in Paris in 1962 before being transposed to Budapest in 1995, and is the most significant source of reflections on literary modernism, avant-guarde and experimental art, as well as the literary connections between the two countries. Its illustrious past and fertile present is represented by some outstanding works, such as those from founding editors Pál Nagy, Tibor Papp and Alpár Bujdosó, as well as from some significant figures of the Hungarian avant-garde in Miklós Erdély, György Galántai, Katalin Ladik and Bálint Szombathy. The boundary-breaking and genre-crossing spirit of the magazine will be on display throughout this special literary performance. The evening will be a creative, open way-of-looking, a bringing together of musical literature-poetry sketches, form-breaking artistic experiences, short readings, projections, films and videos, live poetry recitals and computer verse, where linguistic, visual, physical and oral elements all have a role to play.
The participants here are the most important French and Hungarian representatives of artistic self-expression and boundary-testing experimental literature, as well as the most talented young creators. Everything is therefore in place to ensure a spectacular, shocking and excitingly provocative evening with the assistance of Müpa Budapest’s world-class technical facilities, forcing us to reassess our stale and entrenched assumptions about literature.
