“Vengerov’s technical prowess cannot be praised enough, and his playing is driven by boundless passion,” The Times in London wrote some years ago of the violinist of Russian descent who is a frequent guest with the MÁV Symphony Orchestra. This time, he will perform Jean Sibelius’s excellent Violin Concerto, one of the most original and brilliant works of the musical repertoire, and one that evokes the cold and majestic northern landscape much like the symphonic poem Finlandia. Conducted by the energetic and visionary Gábor Takács-Nagy, the evening opens with another Scandinavian romantic work, Grieg’s Symphonic Dances.
