Born 125 years ago, László Németh is a unique figure in 20th-century Hungarian literature, but one who was nonetheless relegated to the margins of the canon. Zsolt Prieger's latest thought-provoking performance not only uncovers the hidden secrets of the author's multifaceted oeuvre, but also attempts, through the recitation of excerpts selected from diverse, both familiar and lesser-known texts, to bring the author's charismatic and controversial female characters to the fore. Are the works in the Németh oeuvre relevant in any way today? In what context can we speak here, on an occasion celebrating Németh, about the responsibility of the intelligentsia, and perhaps its betrayal? These are the issues unpacked by Zsolt Prieger’s surreal performance, in which he will be ably partnered by the excellent Eliza Sodró and Sára Mosolygó.
