Known also as the Mozart of the 19th century, this multifaceted genius was indulged not only by the Muse of music. He was a friend of Goethe, the discoverer of Bach’s greatest work, and grandson of Moses Mendelssohn, one of the leading thinkers of the German Enlightenment… Emboldened by the success of last season’s Beethoven series, we will roam the musical landscape of Mendelssohn over the course of four concerts, stopping to dwell on the stories, journeys and poetry which inspired him, and the... pages of the Bible through which he thumbed. In the first performance of the series – over the course of some three hours – we will hear the bewitching voice of this fairytale talent.
