Rita Rácz and Zsolt Haja - A Married Couple on the Path of Success
A private Advent recital presented by the Richard Wagner Society
17 December 2023, Sunday
5 pm - 6:30 pm
Festival Theatre

Arias and duets from works by Mozart, Weber, Erkel, Gounod, J. Strauss II, Puccini and Bernstein

The Richard Wagner Society's traditional Advent concert invites the audience to take part in a programme that lovers of beautiful sounds consider to be among the most attractive types of them all: one of arias and duets from works for the musical stage. It promises moments of intimacy generated by the fact that the two performers, soprano Rita Rácz and baritone Zsolt Haja - both soloists with the Hungarian State Opera - are a married couple in ‘civilian' life. Providing the relaxed atmosphere will be their conversation partner, opera singer and director András Hábetler, who currently practises as a physician, with HSO répétiteur and conductor László Bartal contributing the piano accompaniment.

As the child of two successful actors, with even her grandparents singing in a theatre chorus, Rita Rácz felt in her element around the stage from an early age. After training at the Liszt Academy under Éva Marton and Balázs Kovalik, she made her HSO debut in the 2008/09 season, while also winning acclaim in Szeged, Miskolc, Debrecen and Győr. She has made guest appearances in China, Poland, Oman, Germany and Estonia. Zsolt Haja completed his music studies at the conservatory of the University of Debrecen, and launched his career as a soloist at that city's Csokonai Theatre. His earliest successes came with roles from Verdi, Puccini and Donizetti. His HSO debut came in György Ránki's King Pomádé's New Clothes, and he has served as one of the institution's soloists since 2009. The artists' programme promises a colourful and varied adventure through some masterpieces of the musical stage that are quite diverse in character. We will get to hear excerpts from operas, singspiels and even musicals by composers ranging from Mozart, Weber and Erkel to Gounod, Puccini, Johann Strauss and Leonard Bernstein.
