Christmas music extends far beyond The Nutcracker and familiar Baroque repertoire. This concert demonstrates precisely that.
Returning Müpa guest Iveta Apkalna joins forces with a 60-member choir of her compatriots in the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall. Known internationally as a resident artist of Hamburg’s Elbphilharmonie, the Latvian organist is celebrated for her technical mastery and refined musical thinking. The Latvian State Choir, meanwhile, stands as one of the Baltic tradition’s most precise and outstanding ensembles.
Alongside works by Bach, Poulenc, and Britten, the programme features compositions by contemporary composers including Pēteris Vasks, Rihards Dubra, Jēkabs Jančevskis, Arvo Pärt, and Thierry Escaich.
Throughout this evening, the moments of quiet introspection and full sound of the choir will emphasise the importance of peace and contemplation.
