International Sándor Végh String Quartet Competition – Finals

The violinist and chamber musician Sándor Végh (1912-1997) was one of the best-known Hungarian musicians of the 20th century, and conductor of the renowned Camerata Salzburg. In a joint professional and ministerial initiative to mark the 100th anniversary of his birth, the Palace of Arts hosts the finals, awards ceremony and gala performance of the First International Sándor Végh String Quartet Competition. The competition’s artistic director and chairman of the jury is András Keller, while prestigious members of the international jury include Valentin Erben and Gerhard Schulz (Alban Berg Quartet), Stephan Goerner (Carmina Quartet), Ferenc Rados and János Rolla. The finals will take place in the Festival Theatre, where the four finalists will perform a selection of string quartets by Beethoven (final opuses) and Bartók.
