Ein Heldenleben, Op. 40

The two marvellous violinists will kick things off with Bach’s Double Concerto in C minor, a work that is more commonly performed with keyboard soloists. This will be followed by Poème, Ernest Chausson’s most popular composition from the late 19th century, and then, to close the first part of the evening, another Romantic concert piece with orchestral accompaniment: Tchaikovsky’s Valse Scherzo. The two outstanding musicians will continue to collaborate after the intermission, when Bouchkov takes the concertmaster’s post as Baráti conducts Richard Strauss’s 1899 symphonic poem Ein Heldenleben.
