Organ10
21-22 May 2016
One of the largest concert hall organs on the European continent, which has since become famous around the world, was inaugurated on 22 May 2006. It was built by German firm Mühleisen Orgelbau GmbH and Pécsi Orgonaépítő Manufaktúra from Hungary.
On its 10th anniversary, the audience—including the thousands of concertgoers who have already had the chance to admire the versatility of the instrument and organ music over the past years—are invited to a two-day series of festive events.
The series of events opens on the evening of 21 May with a new episode of Organ Stories, a feature popular since 2009. Afterwards, starting at 11:00 p.m., the Frank Zappa Project awaits those who feel the organ is not limited to performing classical music.
The concert programme of 22 May, Sunday starts at 3:00 p.m., with one-hour concerts by Zsuzsanna Elekes and Dóra Pétery playing Bach, Bach and more Bach. At 4:30 p.m. homage is paid to Zoltán Gárdonyi by his son, Zsolt Gárdonyi and his grandson, Dániel Gárdonyi, accompanied by the Cantabile Regensburg. Starting from 6:00 p.m., the instrument is dedicated to Hungarian music with Zsigmond Szathmáry and Balázs Szabó playing Liszt, Kodály and Bartók—popular works in their own arrangement. At 8:00 p.m., the day is crowned by a festive finale, with the two world-famous organists of Notre Dame, Olivier Latry and Philippe Lefevbre playing.
The festival would not be complete if the organisers forgot about children. On Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m., children may attend an Organ Expedition organised by Liszt Award-winning organist László Fassang, editor of Müpa Budapest’s organ programme, who also contributed as an expert to the building of this grandiose instrument. At 11:00 a.m., children are welcome at the Festival Theatre to see Ágnes Mészöly’s play “The Queen’s Dream”, specifically written for this occasion. Sunday’s Palace of Delights is also all about the organ, and the afternoon is rather colourful too, with numerous free accompanying programmes.
For the 22 May concerts, in addition to individual tickets, two different combination tickets are also available.
“Organ10 Afternoon”: combination tickets are available for all three Sunday afternoon concerts for HUF 3,000 instead of HUF 4,500.
“Organ10 Afternoon Plus”: combination tickets are available for all Sunday concerts (the three afternoon concerts and the evening concert) for HUF 4,500 instead of HUF 7,500.
All combination ticket purchasers receive a replica of the smallest pipe of the organ as a gift, which may be collected at the ticket office in case of online ticket purchases as well (in such cases, the gift may be collected upon the presentation of the ticket).
