Mirror Fugue (Fugue for two keyboards) from The Art of the Fugue, BWV 1080

If we tally up the letters in Bach's name according to their position in the Latin alphabet, we get the number 14 - the exact number of items to be played in this highly diverse programme, which provides an exciting cross-section of the Baroque composer's grandiose ouevre. There will be work composed and recomposed in the French and Italian styles, in the manner of Vivaldi, as well as one of the most majestic examples of the passacaglia, the Baroque genre used for variations. Bach developed the Lutheran folk hymns at the centre of his interest in many different ways, and the concert will include a choral motet, written to a cantus firmus, as well as a chorale played in the form of variations. Being played from what is perhaps the composer's most esoteric work, The Art of the Fugue, will be a truly special work: the second part, entering as a canon, responds to the first part as if it were holding up a mirror to the score, horizontally - and the music is still marvellous!
Our performers versed in the work of Bach and Baroque keyboard music will make full use of the unique feature of the Müpa organ, its playing board mechanically connected directly in front of the pipes, which makes the instrument even more responsive to the playing of the musician's fingers. They will also take advantage of the first playing table connected electronically to the pipes.
