Wayne Shorter is one of the greatest saxophone players of the 20th century. Although he is already in his eighties, "his music is as fresh as ever,” wrote the reviewer of USA Today. The last album, the tellingly entitled, hugely successful Without a Net marked his return to the prestigious Blue Note label after a long hiatus.

The nine-time Grammy Award-winning Shorter is a fascinating player and person, an influential innovator who is still working tirelessly, and keeps searching for new horizons, while retaining all that is valuable in the past, thanks to his wide-ranging knowledge of music The acoustic quartet that arrives in Budapest has remained unchanged since its foundation in 2000.

The music they play has taken a decisive step towards fully written compositions. Shorter's "no-compromise, sophisticated art,” wrote Zoltán Végső in Népszabadság of their Budapest concert a few years ago, "clearly outlines the current position of contemporary chamber music which has been inspired by jazz but which has long crossed the boundaries of the genre.”
