A supergroup assembled to mark the centenary of the birth of John Coltrane, the legendary saxophonist and creator of spiritual jazz. In the words of its most senior member, saxophonist Joe Lovano, the group pays tribute to Coltrane’s compositions, while discovering and expressing themselves in his spirit. The quintet comprises well-known jazz musicians who have each already performed in Hungary individually. Together, they are set to bring the house down. Alongside Joe Lovano, one of the central figures of modern jazz, the line-up features the Grammy-winning bassist Linda May Han Oh and drummer Jeff “Tain” Watts, who has played with the Marsalis brothers as well as with Coltrane’s son, Ravi. Nduduzo Makhathini’s piano playing evokes South African and spiritual musical roots, while the younger generation is represented by the Chilean saxophonist, Melissa Aldana.
