Vinicio Capossela first emerged with his 1990 début album All'una e trentacinque circa. His style combining traditions from southern Italy, gypsy music and tango caused just as much of a sensation as his profoundly personal poetry did. With nine more albums released since then, he has soared high above the boundaries of genre, incorporating country music, rumba and Greek Rebetiko just as comfortably as he does arrangements of classics by Adriano Celentano and Gianni Morandi. Famed as the "...Italian Tom Waits” - several of his albums have even featured Waits's guitarist, Marc Ribot - the singer moved to Milan in 1987, where he became involved with the city's theatrical life. This influence is apparent at his concerts, which exhibit a unique shade of Weimar cabaret. In 2000, Capossela's album Canzoni a Manovella won him Italy's two most prestigious music awards: the Targa Tenco and the PIM. Since publishing his first novel, titled Non si muore tutte le mattine, in 2004, this key cult figure of Italian world music has come out with a new album every two or three years.
The names Ilaria Graziano and Francesco Forni first gained attention among aficionados of the cinema, after they partnered with Marianne Faithfull - Francesco as the composer and Ilaria with her bewitching vocals - in a duet in the film Girl from Nagasaki. The popularity of their first joint record, 2015's From Bedlam to Lenane, however, far eclipsed the successes they had enjoyed thus far. This folk/blues/country album showed their ability, employing only a single guitar, to perform songs of not only amazing sensitivity, but also of incredible variety. Songs that simply make one's jaw drop, since they belong to the realm of wonders. And this marvel was repeated in the autumn of 2016 with their second album, Come2Me, solidifying their position in the vanguard of Italian world music.
