This biblically-themed creative work, famous all over Europe and written by an iconic figure of Hungarian popular music, is being presented by stars of the Hungarian musical stage. Headlining the exclusive cast list will be winners of multiple competitions like the superb dramatic soprano Adrienn Miksch, successful baritone Zsolt Haja, Mari Jászai, Simándy and Melis award-winning tenor Zoltán Nyári, as well as Attila Serbán, an audience-favourite from the world of musicals (Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, Mary Poppins) who sings to packed houses night after night. The composer himself will take the stage in the role of Joseph in the 25th anniversary jubilee performance of his most beloved work, in a brand-new production directed by György Böhm.
Ferenc Erkel and Hungarian Heritage award-winning composer László Tolcsvay was a founding member of the bands Tolcsvay Trió and Fonográf. The former was the first to combine rock with Hungarian folk music, and became, as did Fonográf, one of the most popular groups of the '70s. After creating his monumental Hungarian Mass (1987) and his first musical, Doctor Herz (1988), László Tolcsvay teamed up with Péter Müller and Péter Sziámi Müller to jointly produce their work The Gospel of Mary, which focuses on the role of the mother and motherhood in the biblical story that the world knows from the Evangelists. Premièred in 1991, the rock opera has been performed nearly a thousand times in Hungary and abroad over the past 25 years, and has been presented in numerous major theatres translated into English, German, Italian, Slovak and Czech, as well as being released on CD and in a film version.
