After an absence of eight long years, vocal group Take 6 returns to Budapest to sweep lovers of a cappella music off their feet once again with their angelic voices. Although the music of the sextet, which boasts the greatest number of Grammy nominations of any vocal group, is strongly rooted in Christian traditions, their performance style will touch anyone even a little open to emotion-filled but unrelentingly professional music, with ethereal harmonies that are at once drenched in cool grooves, jazz and funk. Formed as a quartet by Claude McKnight in 1980, the group expanded to a sextet a few years later, adopting the name Take 6 in 1987. Over their long career, they have worked with Quincy Jones, Al Jarreau and Roy Hargrove and have released more than a dozen albums, among them three selections of Christmas songs. Although this concert at the Béla Bartók National Concert Hall two days after the beginning of Advent will certainly also feature some seasonal songs, it will primarily provide an occasion for the group to present the audience with material from their new album, due for release in spring 2015. There will also be no shortage of well-known jazz evergreens, gospel songs and R'n’B hits, ensuring an evening of both familiar melodies and the thrill of the new. Get ready to put your hands together!
