Despite the short lifespan, lasting from 1972 to 1974, of the Rákfogó (Crab-catcher) band, its impact is still felt to this day. It was not only the careers of the members, musicians who have reached the highest peaks of success, of this legendary line-up – Béla Szakcsi Lakatos, Imre Kőszegi, Gyula Babos, Jackie Orszáczky and Mihály Ráduly – that it defined, it also had a decisive influence on the evolution of Hungary's entire jazz scene. This concert represents a milestone, with the still-active core members taking the stage together for the first time in long decades – with a contemporary approach and together with their younger colleagues József Horváth Plútó, Kornél Fekete-Kovács, Emilio and Dzsenifer Mága – to remember both Jackie Orszáczky and one of the golden ages of Hungarian jazz.
Today's jazz fans, even if they somehow know how many versions of the Rákfogó there were, would probably get mixed up with the chronology. It's not self-evident that the first line-up was the Új “New” Rákfogó, which was founded by Jacki Orszáczky, with Béla Bögöly on drums and Miklós Cserba on guitar. This was followed by the Rákfogó regarded as the most influential, consisting of Szakcsi, Kőszegi, Babos, Orszáczky and Ráduly, in which Bögöly, Lajos Kathy-Horváth, Vilmos Jávori and János Németh all played for a time. The third incarnation, founded by pianist Gábor Füst Balogh, bore the name Kis (“Little”) Rákfogó, which won the “Who Knows What?” television programme in 1977.
