The World-Wide series at Müpa Budapest has been running since 2013 and is now in its eleventh year. The event shines the spotlight on two unique Hungarian instruments, the cimbalom and the tárogató. In 2023, the cimbalom will once again take centre stage in the form of a two-part evening concert featuring young talents and a new formation making its debut here, the Cimbalmos Trio. We will be able to hear the members of the band and Kálmán Balogh, the permanent host of the World-Wide series, as well as his students, Dániel Szabó and Ferenc Zimber, at a podium discussion with the creator of the event, Endre Liber.
In addition to the tárogató, the World-Wide concert series has introduced the history, significance and for some time the future of another Hungarian curiosity, the cimbalom. The programme editor of the concert series, Endre Liber, will on this occasion talk to three outstanding cimbalom players, Kálmán Balogh, Dániel Szabó and Ferenc Zimber. For decades now, Kálmán Balogh has been a well-renowned and multiple award-winning global star of the instrument, but his students Ferenc Zimber and Dániel... Szabó have also long since found their place in the domestic music scene. The former is active as a member of the Dresch String Quartet, the latter has also recorded an album with the jazz drummer Balázs Bágyi, and they have both played together with countless excellent ensembles and soloists. This evening's concert building on the convergence of the artistry of the three virtuoso musicians and their works written for this occasion promises to be a genuine curiosity in the area of contemporary music. However, at the podium discussion prior to the performance, the question of education will be brought up along with the dissertation of Dániel Szabó, and the audience will also learn why an immersion into several genres at once is now essential to an internationally acclaimed cimbalom evening.
