On the high altar of the church of San Martino a Mensola in Florence, Prince St Emeric stands to the right of the Virgin, holding a white lily, the symbol of purity and virginity. This image and its symbolism have inspired our programme greeting the new year in 2027. The songs to be performed are gems drawn from the treasure trove of Hungarian folk poetry that provides a rich tapestry of symbols taken from the natural world. The performance is also a tribute to the composer and folk-music researcher László Lajtha, whose 1941 collection from Szék provides the musical and methodological backbone to the Hungarian dance house movement. The programme also includes movements from his String Quartet No. 10, composed on the basis of music he collected in Kőrispatak.
