Mercedes Peón is a cult figure on the Spanish world music scene, a witch of a "cantatrice chauve” if there ever was one. After a decade and a half of researching Galician folk music, she released her first record in 2000. The album's rugged tone has since become her trademark. The manner in which she combined the vocal, piping and drumming tradition with the tools of modern electronic music was so visceral that she made her sorcery seem like the most natural thing in the world. She'll be joined by two other "enchantresses” - on vocals, sampler and percussion - when she brings her album Deixaas, scheduled for release in September, to the Müpa Budapest audience.
