Memorial concert to Péter Máté on his birthday
4 February 2007, Sunday
2:30 pm - 4:30 pm
Béla Bartók National Concert Hall

Sixty years ago, on February 4th 1947, the inventive composer Péter Máté was born. He died at the age of 37 but is still hugely respected for his writing, superb arrangements and also as a talented singer and pianist. Hungary first became aware of his name in the late sixties. His first sound recording was made in 1967 at Hungarian Radio, and in 1972, his song Hull az elsárgult levél (The Yellowed Leaf is Falling) was a huge hit, and Elmegyek (I’m Leaving) from 1984 was a world wide hit. He wrote over one hundred and fifty songs, many of which are as popular today as the day they were written. At this commemorative concert, the compere will be Zoltán Miller and performers will include János Koós and Sarolta Dékány, Andrea Malek, Andrea Szulák, László Gáspár, the Bolyki Brothers as well as the Back II Black band. Special guests will be the composer’s widow Edit Máté and István S. Nagy, Péter Máté’s composing partner. This concert will be recorded.
