Marianne Faithfull
12 March 2007 Monday
6:30 pm - 9 pm
Béla Bartók National Concert Hall

The so-called “rhythm and blue angel” Marianne Faithfull has enjoyed an extremely diverse forty year career. She began in the mid sixties, and was associated with the Rolling Stones, who wrote for her such evergreen songs like As Tears go by and Sister Morphine. They parted their ways and this was followed by several years of isolation: until the mid seventies, Marianne’s energies were taken up battling various addictions, but she made her great comeback during the English punk era, releasing her classic album of this era, Broken English. Since then she has produced further masterpieces without a break – and in many new directions. For example her jazz-blues album Strange Weather, then in the nineties A Secret Life made with the composer of the Twin Peaks music, Badalamenti, as well as a selection of Kurt Weill songs, 20th Century Blues. Most recently, alternative figures such as Nick Cave and P. J. Harvey wrote songs for her album Before the Poison. Her concerts planned for 2006, including a visit to Budapest, had to be cancelled because of illness. After a successful operation, Marianne Faithfull is now coming to Hungary to sing the most popular songs from her career.
