Los Orangutanes are considered a unique splash of colour not only in Hungary, but also in the surrounding European region, as it is rare indeed to hear Hungarian musicians performing cumbia, the most popular genre of Latin American music. Born in 2017, the nine-member formation have proved their talent not only with the nature of their music, but also with their highly successful concerts and excellent debut album. This time around, reinforced by Latin musicians residing in Budapest, they are expanding their repertoire by opening it up to cha-cha, salsa and son cubano - and throwing a veritable fiesta in the process.

The members of Los Orangutanes came together out of their shared passion for Latin music, especially cumbia. Iván Tabeira, one of the frontmen of this line-up made up of members of many popular Hungarian bands (Irie Maffia, Anselmo Crew, Zuboly, PASO, and Besh o droM), is originally from Uruguay, so it is fair to say there is a living Latin thread in the band, which favours the more authentic shading of cumbia, the most popular genre of South and Central American music. This dance is popular all over the Latin American region, with a slightly varying flavour depending on where it is being played. Los Orangutanes aimed for the original Colombian/Caribbean sound, as can be clearly heard on their 2021 debut album Lo Mejor De La Cumbia. This time, however, the formation will transform into a huge Latin band to show how many talented Latin musicians there are hidden away in the Hungarian capital. This means that there will be room for other genres of the Latin repertoire beside the usual cumbia this evening: cha-cha, boogaloo, salsa and son cubano. Colombia, Uruguay, Venezuela, Cuba and Mexico all together on stage at Müpa Budapest. Joining the team along with the Latin guests will be a number of excellent Hungarian musicians there to truly evoke the world of large tropical orchestras.
