“Edward the king / the English King / Bestride his tawny steed, “For I will see if Wales,” said he, “Accepts my rule indeed.” Who has never heard these verses? Yes, but sung? In 2017, we celebrate the bicentenary of the birth of János Arany, so we are again staging the Arany Time concert featuring theatre, fine arts, video and literature elements that was first presented here at Müpa Budapest in 2008. Arany Time combines several genres: a concert with theatre, fine arts, video and literature thrown in. But the most important thing is that Arany's ballads will be performed solely with voices, in an a capella style with multiple parts. Joining Levente Szörényi's classic arrangement of Becky Scarlet will be new songs written by Edina Mókus Szirtes for Kriszta Kováts. Her partners are the five-member male vocal ensemble Fool Moon, equally popular both in Hungary and abroad, together with Gábor Gábriel Farkas, who in addition to singing will also be providing the visuals for the programme with his drawings made on the spot and generated into video. The rhythm section consists of beatbox performers László Farkas Keönch and Jammal. The unique aspect of this evening will be having the composer, Edina Mókus Szirtes, also take the stage. The ballads to be performed: The Mother of King Matthias, Becky Scarlet, Orphan Boy, Consecration of the Bridge, Duel at Midnight, Klara Zach, Ordeal of the Bier, Folk Song, The Bards of Wales and Mistress Agnes.
