Jazz Workshop
Featuring Kristóf Bacsó – saxophone, Kornél Fekete-Kovács – trumpet, flügelhorn, Mátyás Szandai – double bass, Ferenc Németh – drums
Guest Kálmán Oláh – piano

Although Kristóf Bacsó can still be listed among the younger generation of musicians, his art already reflects his experiences gained at the Conservatoire de Paris and the Berklee College of Music in Boston, which he attended after first graduating from the Jazz Faculty of the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music. Bacsó has performed in countries all over Europe with a host of artists, including Eddie Henderson, John Patitucci, Nico Morelli, Giovanni Mirabassi, Tony Lakatos and Gerard Presencer. He has played regularly with Kálmán Oláh since 2004, recording a joint album entitled Fitting in 2006 – with Sébastien Boisseau accompanying on double bass. He also collaborated on Oláh's Concerto for Symphony Orchestra and Jazz Band. He is a permanent member of the Kálmán Oláh Sextet and the Modern Art Orchestra as a soloist, arranger and composer. He founded the Kristóf Bacsó Quartet in 2004 to perform his own compositions, in which the musical elements of jazz and contemporary music reflect on life in Central and Eastern Europe. Music critic Gábor Turi wrote the following of his 2008 album Alteregos: “Bacsó's album is endearing in its playfulness, uplifting in its seriousness and impressive in its creativity.” The record and tonight's concert both feature American-based drummer Ferenc Németh, now one of the most sought-after percussionists anywhere. Németh's début album was recorded with the help of John Patitucci, Chris Cheek, Mark Turner, Lionel Loueke and Aaron Parks. Presented by: Palace of Arts
