Kowalsky meg a Vega
12 February 2009 Thursday
7 pm - 9:20 pm
Festival Theatre

Singer-front man Kowalsky made his name as the vocalist for the major Hungarian rock band Black-Out in the nineties. The playfully named Kowalsky meg a Vega was formed at a house party in 1999 and initially it was a hobby band to run alongside the “mother band” of the singer. After a few years, our hero decided that the eclectic musical universe created with his new friends was rather more fulfilling than the more traditional rock music of Black-Out. The ever-changing line-up also added a great many influences into the mix. Kowalsky’s almost hip-hop speaking-singing style is supported by acoustic guitars and programmed machine effects, but if the song really required it, he would not hesitate to introduce woodwind, strings or percussion. There is nothing folksy about this: meaningful lyrics deconstruct with bizarre images the life of the tattooed front man, and the mood is backed up by a powerful all male line-up dressed in black. They continue to enjoy an unbroken run of success. Over the past five years, they have released four studio albums and have progressed from small clubs to the Palace of Arts.
