“Klazz Meets the Voice” - Klazz Brothers & Edson Cordeiro (Germany–Brazil)
19 September 2008 Friday
5:30 pm - 8:30 pm
Festival Theatre

“Klazz Meets the Voice” Edson Cordeiro – vocals, Tobias Forster – piano, Kilian Forster – double bass, Tim Hahn – drums Opera singers who try to express themselves in lighter genres are entering dangerous territory, but there are glorious exceptions which prove the rule. One who did was Kalus Nomi who died in 1983 and, another is the Brazilian Edson Cordeiro who has come together with the Klazz Brothers (Dresden) for this exceptional project. The Klazz Brothers have experimented for many years trying to fill the gap between serious and light music and have enjoyed some success: for example their album Classic Meets Cuba has sold over two hundred thousand copies. But this is nothing compared to the heights achieved with Cordeiro’s voice. The band accompaniment is essentially a standard jazz trio – piano, bass and drums, whereas Cordeiro’s four octave voice and repertoire knows no bounds. They perform flamenco, bossa nova, gospel, jazz, rhythm and blues, pop music and opera with such naturalness that it is as if all these styles derive from the same wellspring. There is no forced eclecticism here, just perfect unity, infinite taste and not least, exceptional entertainment. As you would expect from a sensation!
