Karthago unplugged
18 June 2009 Thursday
6 pm - 7:40 pm
Festival Theatre

In the autumn of 1979, five charismatic musicians came together to make the only Hungarian rock band who has not changed its line-up in thirty years. What they play has a modern sound, this is hard and powerful rock music, sophisticated, finely detailed but in dynamic arrangements and with legendary five voice vocals. Their concert to mark the anniversary of their third decade will be to their usual high standards, but besides a superb light and sound show, it will also involve archive video projections, interactive conversations and surprise guests. This unplugged concert gives an exceptional insight into Karthago’s music. Their rock hard, pumping rock in an acoustic arrangement is tamed into quiet crystal clear and profound songs which when combined with the masterly constructed vocals and sweeping melodies create an unbelievably sensitive effect offering a true musical experience to even the most sophisticated listeners. It is also interesting that at this concert the band will not be using a drummer: they’ll be relying on their own inner clocks and their mastery of their instruments means that they can and will swap instruments with one another from time to time. Throughout their entire career, Karthago have tried not to go through the motions with their music making. They chose where they play with great care. As far as the group is concerned, it is not the quantity but the quality that is important, and their objective is to retain their place at the top of the tree of Hungarian music by not compromising. They are living legends!
