Now, 25 years old, Igor Gehenot started studying classical piano as a young child. At age 13, he was admitted to the Royal Academy of his home town, Liège, to begin his studies in jazz, which he later continued at the Maastricht Conservatorium as a 19-year-old. At 17, he founded the Metropolitan Quartet, with which he made numerous appearances both in Belgium and abroad, also winning the prestigious "Young Talent” prize from the Comblain-la-Tour Festival. In 2009, he started his studies at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles, where he again developed vital friendships with other musicians. This time, the line-up was a trio, which drew the notice of the managers of The Sounds jazz club, resulting in the award of a contract for a two-year residency with the Brussels venue. In 2011, Gehenot received the Sabam Jeunesses Musicales Jazz Award, which brought him to the attention of the Igloo record label. This led to the release of his début album, Road Stories, a year later. The album reached the top of the charts in Japan and became "top album” of a music sharing website. The British magazine Jazzwise praised Road Stories to the skies, highlighting Gehenot's sensitive touch, as well as his crafting of melodies, creative sound and impeccable sense of timing. In 2014, he released his second trio album, Motion, which was inspired, as he still is today, by the joy of movement and travel. It is the music from this record that will be heard here, with Philip Aerts, who also plays in the Philip Catherine Quartet, playing upright bass alongside Gehenot. As for his drummer, nothing could serve as better evidence of Jérôme Klein's multifacetedness than the fact he also plays with the Chrystel Wautier Quintet.
