International Jazz Day is marked at Müpa Budapest in association with the Hungarian Jazz Federation. On this international celebration of jazz, the pride of Hungary’s jazz scene will take to the stage. To open the evening, the Hungarian Jazz Federation will, with the intention of establishing a new tradition, present the Gábor Szabó Award in the Festival Theatre. The prize, founded in 1992, is given out annually to outstanding figures of Hungarian jazz. The concert will continue with two sets of 45 minutes each, in which renowned Hungarian musicians will pay tribute to the legacy of two jazz legends born 100 years ago: John Coltrane and Miles Davis. Coltrane Legacy was not formed specifically for this centenary; the sextet featuring three exceptional saxophonists has been evoking the various periods of “Trane” in their own distinctive style since 2017. On this evening, the iconic album A Love Supreme will be in the spotlight. Trumpet Summit also brings together the power of three brilliant brass soloists, primarily to revive Miles Davis’s late, electronic period.
