What comes to mind when you hear the words “Hungarian song”? Does a record immediately start playing in your head? Are you already humming one of your favourites? And is what you’re listening to notably different to a Czech, Polish, English or American song? There is one characteristic that all of the old Hungarian hits share: they can be reworked without losing any of their original quality. The Great Hungarian Songbook concert series, which began in 2014 under the musical direction of Norbert Káel, features famous songs from various eras performed with new instrumentation and a new approach. Each occasion is a brand new experience, a journey back in time where we can experience the full glory of the hits from the youth of our parents and grandparents.
