Gábor Winand, Elsa Valle – vocals, Béla Szakcsi Lakatos – piano, Mihály Borbély – soprano and alto saxophone, Miklós Lukács – cimbalom, Péter Szalai – tabla Gábor Winand was born in 1964 and initially studied clarinet before turning to singing. He studied in the jazz vocalist faculty under Attila Garai at the Béla Bartók Conservatoire from where he graduated before joining Gyula Babos’ band. He began his relationship, which lasts to this day with guitarist Gábor Gadó when he joined the Joy group in 1990. He later performed with the Trio Stendhal, ESP, and György Vukán while studying saxophone and then flute. Since 2001 he has been a member of the Elemér Balázs group. He has again been playing with Gadó who contributed several compositions to his published albums. The CDs Corners of my Mind (2002) and Different Garden (2004) both won a “choc de l’année” award from the leading French jazz magazine Jazzman for best record of the year. In recent years, Winand has been invited to numerous countries to perform the material from his albums, primarily in France. His latest disc features a duet with one of the leading Hungarian jazz pianists Bélá Szakcsi Lakatos. Much of his career has featured individual arrangements of jazz standards and in the first half of the concert, he will be choosing from his recorded material. The second half presents a vocal-tabla duo, after which the other participants join in the music making. The concert is an exciting production by singing husband and wife Gábor Winand and Elsa Valle.
