Young singer Juli Fábián graduated from the Jazz Faculty of the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in 2007, and formed Jazz Riff in the summer of 2008. In the short span since then, the band has become a main stay of Hungarian clubs and festivals – and were prominent at the 2009 Jazz Showcase. According to the dictionary, a riff is a brief, highly rhythmic melodic phrase or melodic rhythmic motif; some argue that it derives from the phrase “rhythmic figure.” The band’s repertoire, as one would expect... from the name, is characterised by melodic themes, tight grooves, an innovative rhythm section and a lyrical mood. In addition, the characterful voice of the band leader gives the Jazz Riff’s band its unique atmosphere. The band members are versatile musicians who over the course of their careers have visited many genres and proven their abilities.
