Christmas Divas: Niki Szőke & Gigi Radics
12 December 2018 Wednesday
7 pm - 8:30 pm
Müpa Tent

Featuring:

piano Zsolt Farkas
double bass József Barcza Horváth
drums Attila Gyárfás

Two wonderful singers, two different genres: Gigi Radics is one of the most popular pop performers in Hungary, while Nikoletta Szőke is one of the country's to jazz stars. They are both world-renowned singers who have worked alongside some living legends of the music world. Among others, Gigi has worked with Quincy Jones and Niki with Michel Legrand. While both have also appeared at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival, this will be the first time they will give a joint concert. Our audience can look forward to a sparkling festive atmosphere and some real Christmas classics, including Jingle Bells and Silent Night.
The accompanying musicians - all members of Nikoletta Szőke's regular band - are some of the most accomplished performers on the Hungarian jazz scene. In 2017, Zsolt Farkas began working in the Jazz and Piano Department of the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, while he has also worked as an instructor at the Snétberger Music Talent Centre for the last two years. He will later make an appearance at Müpa Budapest with his own group in the 2019 Jazz Showcase. József Barcza Horváth is Nikoletta Szőke's partner both in life and creatively. He has a role not only as one of her musicians, but also as a songwriter, arranger and band leader. He has also recently begun playing in the Bart'z eColony Band. Attila Gyárfás is the son of István Gyárfás, the talented guitarist. Attila has spent much of his life in the Netherlands, while he made a big splash when he played in the Jazz Showcase with his own trio in 2014. He has been a much sought-after drummer ever since.
