The 15-year-old Budapest Jazz Orchestra needs no introduction to Hungarian jazz lovers, but even beyond our borders there is no great need to prove the group's status at the front rank. News of Hungary's longest-standing professional big band has long since been spread around the world by greats such as George Duke, Peter Erskine, Kevin Mahogany, Al Di Meola, Bob Mintzer, Ed Neumeister and Ken Peplowski. In addition to performing contemporary big band compositions, the BJO has always attac...hed importance to preserving the traditions that represent the roots of the genre, and are true masters of swing both individually and together.
Mark Nightingale is one of the most sought-after session musicians on the London music scene, and at the same time an internationally recognised and active trombone soloist. His diverse and stylistically rich playing has been called upon for countless film scores, TV shows and commercials, but he has also composed and arranged for the Royal Schools of Music and the London Symphony Orchestra Brass. He has contributed to albums by Sting, Tom Jones and Robbie Williams, and has played in the orchestras of Henry Mancini, Michel Legrand and Frank Sinatra. The BJO first encountered him in 2010, when their sold-out concert was a huge success. The collaboration proved an unforgettable experience for both the trombonist and the orchestra, and so it is a particular pleasure for the BJO to prepare for another concert with the British musician. The closing concert of New Orleans Swing 2014 will feature some unmistakeable swing hits, as well as compositions written for Nightingale himself and new arrangements created especially for the occasion.
