Breeze Gospel
17 December 2009 Thursday
6:30 pm - 9 pm
Festival Theatre

Gospel music graduated from the church to the stage and concert hall from the 60s to the 80s. It inhaled the funky air of disco and jazz and created a unique musical style, the theme of which remained centred on the songs of the Christian liturgy but which could be enjoyed worldwide irrespective of religious affiliation. Another contributing factor to its popularity is that many superb gospel groups tour the festivals, from large choirs evoking the atmosphere of classical music and churches, down to the most intimate four or five member groups. The women of Breeze Gospel are accompanied by a single pianist and they spread the ”word” moving from traditional gospel songs to the funky hits of modern dance music. Their singing is bursting with the irresistible energy of Afro-American singers, and their overwhelming presence just fills the stage. One minute, they are enchanting listeners as if seated in an American church, the next they are exhibiting the harmonies of a modern jazz concert. This American-Dutch group has been to Hungary before but for the first time will be filling the Festival Theatre with the good news proclaimed by their songs.
