After a hiatus of almost ten years, Boom Boom – known as Hungary’s hardest-rocking underground band from the late 1990s onwards – reformed in February 2011. The guarantee of the band’s intensity and power is that the members in its line-up – which is identical to that of the original band – belong without exception among the most outstanding musicians on the local music scene, who together unleash astonishing levels of energy on stage. Jamie Winchester is active in numerous bands in parallel to his solo career and own productions as a songwriter, producer and singer. Tamás Mohai is one of the most versatile and original guitarists on the Hungarian scene, and György Szappanos one of its most technically gifted bassists. The internationally acclaimed Gergő Borlai has demonstrated his phenomenal energy in innumerable collaborations both at home and abroad, while Tibor Tátrai ranks among Hungary’s best-known guitar players for more than three decades. From the end of the 1990s, the band appeared in countless clubs, cultural centres and festivals, and its comeback in 2011 counts as a milestone in the history of the Hungarian live music scene.
Boom Boom’s musical style is unique, as characterised by Intergalactic Megahello, the album of eight original compositions with which it exploded onto the scene. At the same time, the band’s individual style is also evident in covers of numbers by great performers such as Jimi Hendrix, Lennon & McCartney, Stevie Wonder and Robben Ford, which they interpret through an idiosyncratic blend of blues, rock and jazz. This demonstration of Boom Boom’s musical prowess on the Festival Theatre stage will also feature some new songs, ensuring that the concert provides a truly memorable experience for all those present.
